ABOUT VICKERY MEADOW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation was founded in 2007 to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for students and families in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas with a mission of connecting youth to the capacity-building resources they need to unlock their full potential. The Vickery Meadow community is characterized by its diverse population, with residents originating from over 16 countries and speaking more than 30 languages. 

  • Role Summary:

    The 7th-9th College Success Manager is responsible for guiding volunteers, developing effective mentorship programs, and fostering community engagement and partnerships to empower our EAGLE Scholars. This role will shape program culture, facilitate smooth transitions for Scholars, and build crucial relationships with students, parents, and volunteers. If you are a dedicated, collaborative leader with a passion for youth development, this position offers a unique opportunity to drive educational and personal growth for our Scholars and their communities.

    Core Competencies:

    Ability to lead and guide volunteers effectively, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for program success.

    Proficiency in designing and developing youth mentorship and development programs, with a keen understanding of cultural diversity and inclusion.

    Strong relationship-building skills to engage with students, parents, and volunteers, ensuring effective communication and community involvement.

    Competence in establishing and adhering to supervision protocols, including performance management and resource allocation.

    Demonstrated fiscal responsibility, budget management, and inventory oversight to ensure efficient program operations.

    Collaborative skills for training and mentorship coordination, working closely with senior leadership and other program leaders.

    A deep understanding of youth development and mentorship best practices, as well as the ability to create an environment that encourages agency and self-advocacy in Scholars.

    Strong organizational and documentation skills, including the utilization of CRM systems and reporting tools to monitor Scholar activities, engagements, and outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Leadership

    - Lead volunteer onboarding process and provide guidance and mentorship.

    - Foster collaborative relationships with schools, individuals, and nonprofits.

    - Establish and adhere to Scholar outing supervision protocols.

    - Participate in community meetings to assess community assets and needs.

    Program Development

    - Collaborate with senior leadership and other program leaders to shape program culture and expectations.

    - Develop a strategy for leveraging older Scholars, graduates, and alumni to mentor and guide younger Scholars.

    - Identify diverse cultural events and activities to broaden Scholars' horizons.

    - Ensure smooth transitions as Scholars progress through the program.

    - Create programs that empower middle school and freshman Scholars for high school applications and career awareness.

    - Provide resources for Scholars to navigate the educational system.

    - Develop programs that encourage Scholars to build agency and self-advocacy skills.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    - Build and maintain relationships with students, parents, and volunteers.

    - Apply established criteria for student participation, including performance management and offboarding processes.

    - Utilize interpreters when necessary for effective community engagement.

    - Cultivate relationships with school counselors, teachers, and principals to support Scholar recruitment and retention, as well as to gain insight into school practices.

    Resource Management and Compliance

    - Ensure fiscal and reporting responsibility in program operations.

    - Oversee inventory management and promptly report lost or damaged items.

    Staff Development

    - Collaborate with senior leadership and program leaders to design and implement intern training.

    Student Success

    - Prepare middle schoolers for college through team building, academic and soft skills development.

    - Conduct individual and group meetings with parents and Scholars to understand their goals and needs.

    - Utilize CRM and reporting systems to document and track Scholars' activities and engagement.

    - Coordinate transportation for cultural outings.

    - Facilitate discussions with relevant stakeholders and family support staff to address student concerns and keep senior leadership informed.

    - Identify and share resources with Scholars to enhance their chances of success.

    Role Qualifications:

    - Ability to drive a 15-passenger van (must be 25 for insurance purposes)

    - Bachelor’s degree in counseling or education degree or similar field

    - Conversational in a second language preferred

    - Experiences with middle and high school students

    - Willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include some evenings and weekends

    - Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds dead weight to move or transfer boxes or supplies.

    - Ability to spend time outside in temperatures varying from 0 degrees F to 110 degrees F.
